"The government will return to the issue in three weeks. I have little doubt that it will extend the lockdown. The question is what conditions will be set," he told reporters on Tuesday.

The minister said it was too early to say if the lockdown, in place in Lithuania since last Saturday, was yielding any results.

"At the start of next week, we'll be able to say how we are doing," he said.

The Cabinet is planning to adopt on Wednesday decisions to clarify certain lockdown restrictions, according to Veryga.

"Some clarifications should be made. One clarification is about the wearing of masks by children aged six and older because misunderstandings have arisen in kindergartens where some children are six years old already and others are not yet," he said.

Lithuania was placed under lockdown on November 7 amid spiking coronavirus infections.

The measure, in effect through November 29, includes mandatory wearing of facemasks for everyone aged over six years in all public spaces and a ban on all events and gatherings, except for high-performance sporting events without spectators.

Restaurants, bars and cafes are only allowed to serve food for take-away or delivery, and gyms, pools, SPA centers, museums, cinemas and theaters are closed.

Certain restrictions also apply to healthcare services, retail operations, schools and public transport.
