The commander of the United States Forces Europe, Lieutenant General Ben Hodges, will attend a conference on NATO’s strength, defence and deterrence, in Vilnius on Monday ahead of the NATO Summit in Warsaw.

The conference, Sustaining NATO's Strength and Deterrence, is organized by the Lithuanian Defence Ministry in collaboration with the Atlantic Council.

The topics discussed will include the US role in European security and the security of the Baltic region.

Lithuania's Defence Minister Juozas Olekas and representatives of the Atlantic Council will attend the conference ahead of the NATO Summit in Warsaw where the Baltic states will seek to secure guarantees of deployment of an international Allied battalion of up to 1,000 troops in each of their territories.
