Lina Businskaite, spokeswoman for the acting health minister, told BNS the government would be proposed to specify the lockdown conditions for sports clubs and pools.

"This and the upcoming Wednesday fall within the lockdown period, and the extension will be proposed next Wednesday," she said.

The Health Ministry's proposed amendments include a clause banning the provision of leisure services, use of sports equipment, and the operation of sports clubs, fitness centers, entertainment, leisure and recreational facilities, pools, bathhouses, discos, dance halls and cinemas.

The ban does not apply to public bathhouses meant for the satisfaction of personal hygiene needs.

The Health Ministry says these are not new restrictions but the proposed amendments are aimed at defining more clearly the leisure, entertainment and sports services hat fall under the lockdown restrictions "since questions are arising over the attribution of certain services to leisure, entertainment and sports services".

A second lockdown was introduced in Lithuania on November 7 and set to last until November 29. Health Minister Aurelijus Veryga said earlier, however, that a proposal to extend it would be submitted. People are required to wear face masks in public places during the lockdown, and the operation of cafes, bars and entertainment venues are banned. Also, almost all events are cancelled, except for top-level sports matches that take place without fans, and some other restrictions are also in force.
