Ghana's Foreign Minister Shirley Ayorkor is visiting Lithuania for the first time, the Baltic country's Foreign Ministry announced on Tuesday.

The guest and Lithuania's Foreign Minister Linas Linkevičius discussed prospects of developing bilateral relations, cooperation within multinational formats as well global and regional issues. During the meeting, Linkevičius underlined that more intensive political ties would help to pave the way for closer cooperation in the areas of business, science and culture.

"The best way to seek closer bilateral economic cooperation is the facilitation of direct business contacts. We are, therefore, ready to provide comprehensive support and any information necessary for the facilitation of business contacts between Lithuania and Ghana," the Lithuanian minister was quoted as saying in a statement.

During a roundtable discussion, representatives of Lithuania and Ghana exchanges information on the business environment in the countries and discussed potential areas of cooperation and paid a lot of attention to possibilities in the area of information technologies, cyber security and financial technologies, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

Ghana's delegation will attend the Women Political Leaders Summit in Vilnius on Jun. 6–8.

Linkevičius paid his first visit to Ghana in October.

With almost 27 million residents, Ghana is the 11th largest African economy and one of the most stable democracies on the continent. Lithuania and Ghana established diplomatic relations in 1992.
