Vaičeliūnas will Wednesday take command of Lithuania's only higher military school from Colonel Raimondas Matulis who headed the academy for two years.

Up until now, Vaičeliūnas served as inspector general of the Defence Ministry.

Vaičeliūnas, one of the founders of Lithuania's Armed Forces, started military service in 1991. He completed studies in a Bundeswehr academy in Germany in 1996 and was appointed to head the Iron Wolf Brigade of the Land Forces. Later in his career, Vaičeliūnas was the chief of the Lithuanian Military Academy and the Baltic Defence College in Estonia.

He also headed the army's Joint Staff and was delegated to the NATO Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE).
