Antanas Sireika, a former head coach of the Lithuanian national men's basketball team, plans to run for parliament this autumn on the Social Democratic ticket.

Algirdas Sysas, head of the Social Democratic Party's central election headquarters, told BNS that Sireika is number 141 on the social democratic candidate list.

Sireika is currently the head coach of Juventus Utena. He was the head coach of the Lithuanian national men's basketball team that won the European championship in Sweden in 2003.

Olympic discus throwing champion Virgilijus Alekna had intended to run for parliament with the social democrats, but later dropped the plans.
