The Valerijus Simulikas-led movement, For Šiauliai, will participate in upcoming parliamentary elections on the Peasant and Greens Union list.

The Union‘s leader Ramūnas Karbauskis said that his party was seeking to bring together all movements whose way to the parliament had been blocked by other mainstream parties.

“A number of committee leaders today are heading municipalities. Other parties should have not underestimate them,” said Mr. Karbauskis.

“We are an independent movement and are proud of it. We choose the way - to particiapte in elections with the Peasant and Greens and we thank the party‘s leader Karbauskis for the opportunity. We are glad that we are accepted as equal partners,” the For Siaulai movement said in a statement.

Karbauskis said that there would be no compromise on the Peasant and Green Union’s fundamental values such as reducing alcohol abuse.

“Sobriety has become a key piece of rhetoric for all politicians but we were the ones first worked to push for it. I do not believe politicians who now speak loudly about restricting alcohol,” he said.
