On Friday, the Foreign Affairs Ministry held a meeting with the State Security Department, the Civil Aviation Administration, and the Tourism Department. The institutions exchanged and assessed information about the security situation in Egypt's Sharm el-Sheikh Airport and measures to ensure the security of Lithuanian citizens. The Foreign Affairs Ministry revised its travel recommendations.

The Foreign Affairs Ministry recommends against air travel to Sharm el-Sheikh Airport and other airports of the Sinai Peninsula. Those travelling in Egypt are advised to exercise caution, follow instructions of tour operators, guides and hotel administration.

Following the MFA recommendation, two Lithuanian tour operators announced they were cancelling chartered flights to the Sinai Peninsula.

Tez Tour has said that flights bound to Sharm el-Sheikh scheduled for November 8 and 11 will be redirected to Hurghada Airport in mainland Egypt. Lithuanian tourists already in Sharm el-Sheikh will be flown back according to schedule.

Another tour operator, Novaturas, has said it is cancelling scheduled outbound flights until November 11, while flights from Sharm el-Sheikh to Vilnius will proceed as planned.
