These include Gabrielius Landsbergis, the current leader, and four other conservative lawmakers: Mykolas Majauskas, Paulius Saudargas, Agnė Bilotaitė and Žygimantas Pavilionis.

The party's presidium is to meet later on Monday to approve a list of candidates for the post.

The first round of the election will be held on February 11-12, to be followed by a run-off round if needed.

Landsbergis himself initiated the early election as a vote of confidence in his leadership.
