His designation was supported by 16 members of the committee, while three voted against. The entire European Parliament will vote on the proposal on June 6-9.

In response to the questions from the committee's members, Šadžius said that the three key decisions he was involved in throughout his career included adoption of the euro in Lithuania, creation of the Banking Union and development of a more efficient management and audit of EU funds in Lithuania.

The Lithuanian finance minister emphasized his full independence during his term in the European Court of Auditors.

The term of Lithuanian representative at the European Court of Auditors, Rasa Budbergytė, expired earlier in May.
