Eighty percent of the 500 volunteers were deemed fit for military service. Volunteers were allowed to choose the unit where they wanted serve. The Lithuanian Grand Duke Butigeidis Dragoon Battalion located in Klaipėda stood out in popularity. According to the defence minister, it is very likely that only the unit my be filled with volunteers only and only a very small fraction of drafted servicemen.

Olekas said, however, that the final decision would be announced in early September, when the first group of soldiers would be sent to serve in the battalion. The minister added that a sufficient number of volunteers or conscripts have chosen to serve in the battalion.

As reported, 3,000 conscripts will be drafted for mandatory initial military service this year. The first group of conscripts will arrive to Lithuanian Grand Duke Butigeidis Dragoon Battalion on 24 August.
