Lithuanian Minister of National Defense Juozas Olekas, currently in Azerbaijan, has invited Azeri troops to take part in training in Lithuania.

During a meeting with his Azeri counterpart Colonel General Zakir Hasanov, Olekas thanked Azerbaijan for its contribution to the ISAF operation in Afghanistan and also welcomed Azerbaijan's decision to continue its participation in the operation beyond 2014.

The Lithuanian minister also called on Azerbaijan to step up participation in Eastern Partnership initiatives and the EU's Common Security and Defense Policy, Lithuania's Ministry of National Defense said in a statement on Wednesday.

Speaking about bilateral military cooperation, Olekas said that Lithuania would continue supporting Azerbaijan in the area of military training.
