At a meeting with his Hungarian counterpart, Csaba Hende, in Air Force Aviation Base in Šiauliai on Monday, Olekas thanked the country for the rotational troops sent in 2014, the air-policing fighter-jets and airmen that arrived on Monday and the officer delegated to a NATO centre under development in Vilnius, the Ministry of National Defence said.

"We value the experience and the professional skills of the Hungarian troops, which our soldiers learned about during a joint exercise. We call upon Hungary to consider sending rotational forces to Lithuania again next year. We will work to provide the best conditions for the training of the Hungarian troops," Olekas said in a press release.

The minister emphasized that Hungary had been the first country to send rotational forces to Lithuania last year, which was a "sign of solidarity and unity."

The two ministers also discussed regional cooperation, support to Ukraine, the upcoming NATO summit in Warsaw, bilateral cooperation and other security and defence matters.
