The Conservatives have proposed for anti-vaxxer parents to not be granted children’s grants so that such parents would have to cover treatment costs themselves if the child were to fall ill. This was a proposal made by Radvilė Morkūnaitė-Mikulėnienė during a Homeland Union – Lithuanian Christian Democrat (TS-LKD) Seimas group sitting, to which Minister of Healthcare Aurelijus Veryga was invited.

An exception is possible in cases where the child cannot be vaccinated due to a health condition. The discussion on vaccinations arose following increased frequency in measles cases.

The MP was speaking about vaccinations from the diseases parents vaccinate against least frequently: measles, rubella and mumps. However, sources in the party have clarified that this would be up for discussion, potentially linking the stripping of grants with refusing all vaccinations on the vaccine calendar.

Minister Veryga is skeptical of such proposals.

"I believe that poorly measured pressure creates the opposite effect and forces groups, who do not operate based on scientific fact, to isolate. They mobilise for defence," A. Veryga said.
