According to Lithuanian Transport Minister Jaroslav Narkevic, flows of freight transport have increased since quarantine was lifted in Lithuania, subsequently leading to lines at border-crossing points.

"That additional opening of Lavoriskes-Kotlovka point and the resumption of activity would create an opportunity to avoid the gathering of means of transport, especially of trucks, in one area, and there would be no possibility to gather and make that border checkpoints a place of mass gathering, and this way we would protects ourselves from the spread of COVID-19," the minister said during last week's Cabinet meeting.

Moreover, Lithuania's Foreign Ministry is considering opening Rambynas-Dubki border checkpoint on the Lithuanian-Russian border.

Currently, both passenger cars and freight transport can cross Lithuania's external border with Belarus via three border checkpoints, including Medininkai-Kamenyi Log, Raigardas-Privalka and Salcininkai-Benyakoni.
