"The definite victory of Macron shows that the people of France are resistant to attempts to manipulate elections and remain loyal to the idea of Europe and democratic values," reads a message published by the Lithuanian President's office.

Grybauskaite emphasized that France was an important partner for Lithuania and a reliable Ally. "Lithuania values France's resolute actions to contribute to security of our region, the country's leadership in the struggle against climate change and other issues on the global agenda," said the Lithuanian leader.

In her words, today's economic and political challenges, as well as terrorism threats demand unity of all European states. Grybauskaite expressed hope that Lithuania and France continue their successful cooperation during the new president's term in office, and the open dialogue on security and European agenda will help ensuring interests of both countries.

The Lithuanian president wished the new French counterpart success and endurance.

According to preliminary results, pro-European Macron on Sunday won a definite victory in the French presidential run-off, defeating far-right opponent Marine Le Pen.
