Grybauskaitė said that the decision of the people of Great Britain must be implemented, but that both the EU and Great Britain need time to prepare for it. The solution of a situation without precedent requires well-reasoned actions and an open, positive dialogue to ensure that the UK's withdrawal would be as painless as possible for both parties.

Grybauskaitė also emphasised that Great Britain is Lithuania's close economic partner and NATO ally, and that the two countries were preparing for the NATO summit meeting. In the negotiations on the UK's departure, she said Lithuania would defend its interests and seek to protect its close ties with Britain.
