The meeting will focus on what NATO measures are necessary to ensure security of the Baltic states and step up defense in the region. Decisions on such measures will be discussed during the upcoming NATO summit in Wales on 4-5 September.

According to the Lithuanian leader, NATO must make realistic evaluation of threats to security and correspondingly amend the defense plans for the Baltic states and Poland, also ensure long-term security measures in the region and employ specific deterrence measures.

The presence of NATO land, air and navy forces must be increased in the region and joint training events must be held, the Lithuanian president said.
