When asked by the LTV7 show Tochki nad i whether he agrees with Grybauskaitė's repeated statement that Russia demonstrates qualities which are characteristic of a terrorist state, Berzins said that he does not agree with this statement.

He also said that the Lithuanian president has more opportunities to express her opinion on various issues, including those regarding foreign policy.

During an interview with BBC's business journalist Vishala Sri-Pathma, President Grybauskaitė said that Russia is "behaving as a terrorist state."

In February 2014 Russia occupied the Crimean peninsula that belonged to Ukraine. In March, Crimea was annexed. Since April 2014, Russia has been backing a bloody separatist movement in Eastern Ukraine.

Ukraine's Permanent Representative at the UN Yuriy Sergeyev said during the Security Council meeting in January that Russia has deployed about 12,000 soldiers in Ukraine's east.

German, French, Russian, and Ukrainian leaders agreed on a ceasefire as of midnight of February 14.

Ignoring the ceasefire, Russian mercenaries and soldiers continued to carry out attacks in east Ukraine.
