Mr. Olekas said, “In a fight against growing cyber security threats and attacks, international efforts are often needed. I am happy that the Baltic states are strengthening cooperation in cyber security, trying to coordinate actions and defend themselves against cyber threats together.”

The three Baltic states agreed to share experience and knowledge about cyber security policies and their implementation directions, support international cooperation and information sharing in public and private investigations and in creation of information system and web page security.

The Baltics also agreed to exchange data on cyber incidents or potential threats, if it could harm any other Baltic state.

Lithuanian, Latvian and Estonian cyber security policy coordinators and cyber security specialists have been actively cooperating since 2009 when a first tripartite meeting was held in Riga. Since then, experts convene twice every year in one of the Baltic states. The memorandum was signed to entrench and strengthen the cooperation.

The memorandum on cooperation in cyber security was signed during a teleconference using national electronic signature certificates. This memorandum is the first international agreement in the Baltic states signed using electronic signatures.
