In 2015, Meilutytė fell off a bike and broke her arm near the elbow. She had rehabilitation in Physio Conditioning Clinic which has published a comment after Rūta‘s swim in the 100m breaststroke finals.

“This time Rūta had a much more difficult journey than the one she had to triumph in 2012 in London. When she fell off a bike and suffered a fracture that could have cost her a career, right near the elbow joint, we were afraid that our trip to Rio would end here.

"Rūta is a real fighter. Months of rehabilitation, pain, and a surgery did not stop her belief for one moment that she would go to Rio. Just as the elbow began to function, we worked hard in the pool and at the gym, recovered her power, strength, confidence and faith. We got very close to the target. Very close. This time without a medal, but Rūta is a real champion,” said Physio Conditioning on their Facebook profile.

Mielutytė finished seventh in the 100m breaststroke finals on Monday. Olympic gold went to the American swimmer Lilly King, Russia's Yulia Yefimova was second and Katie <="" p="">
