Three Lithuanians took part in competitions on day five in the Rio Olympic Games. Two of them are leaving the games earlier than expected.

Boxing

Evaldas Petrauskas (24), a bronze medallist from London Olympics in 2012, expected to repeat his achievement in Rio as well. However, the Lithuanian failed to win his first fight in the round of 32. Petrauskas lost with a score of 2-1 to the Indian boxer Manoj Kumar (29) who earlier this year won gold in the South Asian Games.

Sailing

The silver medallist from the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, Gintarė Scheidt, took part in two races (races 5 and 6) in the laser radial event. In the fifth race among ten she claimed the 12th position. In the sixth race, the Lithuanian performed much better and finished fifth.

Swimming

Danas Rapšys, 21-year-old Lithuanian swimmer, failed to qualify for the 200m backstroke semifinals after finishing the heats in the 21st position with a time of 1:59.58 minutes, almost five seconds behind the heat winner Evgeny Rylov (19) of Russia who stopped the clock at 1:55.02 minutes.
