“It is not all about winning the trophy but about bringing Israeli and Lithuanian youngsters together. To practice, play and socialize,” Ambassador of Israel Amir Maimon said.

The tournament is set for Tuesday, August 11, through Wednesday, August 12, and boasts four teams from Lithuania and Israel. The three teams from Lithuania are: Vilnius Šarūnas Marčiulionis Basketball Academy, Šiauliai “Saulė” Basketball Academy, Kaunas “Perkūnas” Basketball Academy and from Israel Maccabi Tel-Aviv Basketball Club. On the first day, the semi-finals will be played and on the second day two teams will be playing for the bronze and the final. Well-known and highly respected and appreciated referee Romualdas Brazauskas will be responsible for the whistle.

A month ago, the Embassy launched a creative marketing campaign with a secret code “8.12” on its Facebook page “Izraelis Lietuvoje” (Israel in Lithuania). On a daily basis, the Embassy posts photos of Lithuanian and Israeli celebrities, such as the journalist Paulius Gritėnas, the singer Rafailas Karpis, the Mayor of Vilnius Remigijus Šimašius, the Mayor of Šiauliai Artūras Visockas, also the legendary basketball players Tal Brody and Šarūnas Marčiulionis holding a page with a secret number written on it. For about three weeks, event followers were asking many questions about the event, people were also sharing their pictures with “8.12” and discussed it, but the meaning of the numbers has been revealed only now.

The Embassy would like to recognize and thank the following organizations for their contribution to the event: the Lithuanian Jewish (Litvak) Community, the Lithuanian Basketball League (LKL), mineral water “Akvilė”, ice-cream “Nykštukas”, travel agency “West Express”, Ukrainian Airlines, “Sveikas miestas”.
