Lithuanian prosecutors say that they have doubts about the mental state of Egidijus Anupraitis, 26, who has been detained on the suspicion of killing four members of his family.

"We will conduct a series of tests to establish the suspect's metal condition," Darius Valkavičius, senior Kaunas prosecutor, told journalists on Tuesday.

In his words, the suspect who was detained in Marijampolė, southern Lithuania, earlier on Tuesday, had aimed at vital body parts of his family members, firing a total of 21 shots.

"At least 21 shots were fired at the scene of the shooting. Looking at the injuries we see on the bodies of the killed individuals, we can say he was aiming at vital body parts. This leads to a conclusion that the suspect's objective was to kill the persons," said Valkavičius.

"Such injuries leave no chances of survival," he added.

Anupraitis is suspected of fatally shooting his mother, father, grandmother and father's brother, whose bodies were found in the family's home in the village of Gaiženai in the district of Kaunas at around 6 p.m. on Monday. Another man, the suspect's grandfather, was found with a gunshot wound in his leg and was rushed to a hospital.
