Some 189 people were killed on Lithuania's roads in 2016, the lowest number since at least 1952, the Transport Ministry said on Thursday.

It attributed the result to the development of road infrastructure, the implementation of traffic safety measures, tightened control of traffic rule violators and active education campaigns.

Some 241 people died in traffic accidents in the country in 2015.
