Traditionally, the village of Pivašiūnai in the southern Lithuanian district of Alytus, known for the local painting of Virgin Mary and baby Jesus, attracts crowds of worshipers on the Assumption day.

The Seimas of Lithuania included the Assumption into the list of public holidays in 2000.

Figures from the 2011 census shows that 77 percent of Lithuanian residents consider themselves Roman Catholics.
