"The Prosecutor General's Office has sent an extradition request to the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation that will hear the request on Zamolskis' handover to Lithuania," reads a press release.
Vilnius prosecutors suspect Zamolskis of committing 22 crimes in Lithuania in 2001, including murders, thefts, burglaries and unlawful possession of arms and drugs.
Zamolskis, 44, resisted an arrest in Yekaterinburg in August and was injured by Russian police officers.
Following the detention, Lithuania's former police chief Vytautas Grigaravičius told BNS that Russia would probably seek to put Zamolskis on trial for the crimes committed in Russia before discussing his extradition to Lithuania.
Zamolskis escaped from Lithuanian authorities during a hostage drama in Panevėžys in 2001. His accomplice was shot dead.
