At the beginning of 2016, an order came into effect at the Ministry of Health that bars children that have not been vaccinated from polio, measles or rubella from being enrolled in kindergarten. Now, the Lithuanian courts will investigate whether this order, issued by former Minister of Health Vytenis Andriukaitis, was legal.

The investigation into whether or not the order was legal was requested by members of the Seimas (parliament).

The Ministry of Health has prepared legal amendments that would levy fines on parents whose children have not been vaccinated from polio, measles and rubella. Rimantė Šalaševičiūtė, the current Minister of Health, has indicated that the prohibition on the enrollment of unvaccinated children in kindergarten will be removed if the Seimas were to accept the proposed legal amendments stipulating fines for unvaccinated children.
