People in Lithuania traditionally trust fire fighters, the police and the army, and don't trust political parties, the Seimas and the government, according to the latest survey, carried out by the Vilmorus pollster for the Lietuvos Rytas daily, published on Saturday.

According to Vilmorus director Vladas Gaidys, the percentage of those trusting political parties, the parliament and the government is the lowest since the last Seimas election held in October, 2016.

„The three institutions with a negative balance include parties, the Seimas and the government. This time their result is the lowest since the last Seimas election", Gaidys told BNS Lithuania.

89 percent of people in Lithuania trust fire fighters, and 2 percent don’t, compared to 89.7 percent and 1.9 percent respectively in March.

63.1 percent have trust in the police, up from 59.4 percent in March. And 9.9 percent don’t trust the police, down from 11.4 percent in March.

The army came in third, with 58.6 percent having trust in the armed forces. 13.2 percent don’t trust the army. In March, there were 57.8 and 13.3 percent respectively.

18.5 percent trust the government, down from 21.1 percent in March. The Seimas enjoys the trust of 6.7 percent, down from 11.4 percent in March, and the percentage of people having trust in political parties dropped from 7.3 to 5.4 percent.

Meanwhile, the percentage of people who don’t trust the government was up from 31.8 to 36.8 percent. The number of those distrusting the Seimas increased from 53.7 to 61.5 percent, and distrust in political parties was up from 62.1 to 64 percent.

The survey was carried out on April 6-15.
