Lithuania's Parliamentary Speaker Viktoras Pranckietis says he disagrees with the words by Ramūnas Karbauskis, the leader of the ruling Lithuanian Peasant and Green Union (LPGU) that delegated him to the post, about the story of MP Greta Kildišienė being an attempt to destroy the administration.

"This was not destruction of government, possibly just an emotional statement," Pranckietis told Žinių Radijas news radio on Wednesday morning. In his words, the monitoring of the administration by the media and opponents is a usual thing in a democratic society.

Karbauskis said on Tuesday that the developments of the past weeks had been "the first serious attempt to undermine the government that has been elected by people". In his words, Kildišienė gave up her MP mandate "to make it clear to everyone in Lithuania that this attack had a different purpose and she was simply first in line.”

Kildišienė, deputy chairwoman of the LPGU and former deputy head of the party's political group at the Seimas, left the parliament after it turned out that she had concealed from the party's members that a pre-trial investigation had been opened a decade ago into alleged misappropriation by her of funds from her employer.

Pranckietis said the story should serve as a lesson to all MPs to "realize their mistakes and correct them in time." In his words, the reports about car lease by Lithuanian parliamentarians reported in the past days does not lead to any generalized conclusions, and every case should be analyzed separately.
