The Lithuanian parliament on Tuesday endorsed the conclusions of the Anti-Corruption Commission, which suggest that MP Artūras Skardžius of the Social Democratic Labour group could have confused his public and private interests by taking care of the renewable resource sector.

The conclusions were supported by 73 of Lithuania's 141 parliamentarians, one was against and five abstained.

The Anti-Corruption Commission suggests that the parliament should turn to the Chief Official Ethics Commission and the parliamentary Commission of Ethics and Procedure for evaluation of the conduct of Skardžius.

The parliament rejected the conservatives' proposal to extend the Anti-Corruption Commission's inquiry into Skardžius' operations.

The Anti-Corruption Commission has found that Skardžius could have breached the provisions of the law on public and private interests in public service by having interest in the renewable energy sector and proposing related bills.

Members of the Skardžius family are involved in energy business, and the Lithuanian Special Investigation Service (STT) has concluded that the Skardžius-proposed amendments on renewable resources could have provided exclusive conditions for owners of the small solar and wild power plants, as he had interests in the businesses. Skardžius has dismissed the STT conclusions as forged.
