"The cases are very different but they both discredit the Seimas. (…) Decisions on whether they can stay in the Seimas will be made by the Seimas, of course," she told Vilnius journalists.

Impeachment proceedings have been started against both MPs.

The contacts of Bastys, a member of the ruling Social Democratic Party group, came into the spotlight after the State Security Department notified the parliamentary speaker that Bastys should not be issued a permit to work with classified information. According to data available to the department, Bastys was linked with Yevgeny Kostin, titled as a representative of the Russian nuclear energy corporation Rosatom, former KGB agent Piotr Voyeiko, Russian state channel RTR journalist Ernest Matskevich, former Kaunas mafia leader Saturnas Dubininkas and Vadimas Pachomovas, a businessman suspected of shady operations.

MP Pūkas is charged with sexual harassment. After reports from a few young females, an investigation was launched by prosecutors last Friday.

Neither Bastys, nor Pūkas see reasons for giving up their MP mandates.
