With the Lithuanian Social Democratic Party (LSDP) considering pulling out of the ruling coalition with the Lithuanian Farmers and Greens Union (LFGU), Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis says that he will seek support for his government's program from all political groups in the parliament.

The LFGU's prime minister plans to meet with the leaders of all political groups in the Seimas by the end of next week.

"I will meet with the leaders of all groups before the (start of) the fall session to discuss the fall agenda," he told reporters on Wednesday.

The parliament's fall session will begin on Sept. 10.

Gintautas Paluckas, the new LSDP leader, and the majority of the party's branches are in favor of withdrawing from the coalition, but the Social Democrats' political group in the Seimas and their ministers want the party to stay in government.

The Social Democrats say that they will make a final decision after Sept. 20, a deadline for all branches to state their position. Skvernelis says that if the LSDP tries to postpone discussions until the start of the budget-adoption process, he will seek to secure alternative support before the Social Democrats make their formal decision.

The LFGU political group has 56 members in the 141-seat Seimas and the Homeland Union's group has 31 members. The Social Democrats have 19 seats in the parliament. The Liberal Movement has 14 lawmakers, the Electoral Action of Poles in Lithuania – Union of Christian Families has eight, and the Order and Justice has seven. There are also five non- attached parliamentarians.
