The Kartu (Together) movement led by Lithuanian MP Povilas Urbšys has called on Rytis Mykolas Račkauskas to step down as mayor of the northern city of Panevezys amid corruption suspicions.

"The civic movement Kartu, unlike the parties that previously ruled Panevėžys, assumes political and moral responsibility for the individuals it delegated and urges Panevėžys City Mayor Rytis Mykolas Račkauskas to resign from his post," the movement's council said in a statement on Tuesday.

Račkauskas ran in the municipal election on the Kartu list. Almost all members of the municipal council, including the mayor, last May left the movement amid disagreements with Urbšys.

Law-enforcement officials suspect Račkauskas of abuse of office and influence peddling. A court last week suspended him from office for three months.
