The Council of the Electoral Action of Poles in Lithuania is nominating its leader Valdemar Tomaševski to run for the post of Vilnius mayor, the politician himself confirmed to BNS on Wednesday.

Tomaševski was elected to the European Parliament in May.

Lithuania will hold municipal elections on 1 March. Following modifications to electoral laws, for the first time voters will pick mayors in direct elections.
