Lithuanian Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevičius has already submitted a proposal to the presidential office to dismiss the Interior Minister Saulius Skvernelis, although previously he has said he would only do so after a new minister had been found.

“Last week there were some announcements related to the election campaign that came out through his advisers. We have previously agreed that neither he, nor his team would do any politicking. Due to the fact that the agreement has been broken, I have submitted a decree,” said Butkevičius.

Interior Minister Skvernelis said that his position was political, which was why he was talking about politics and responding to journalists' questions whenever they arise.

“I certainly did not criticize the government, which would be a complete misunderstanding, and I did not refuse to carry out the government‘s program,” said Skvernelis.
