The Central Electoral Commission is already accepting documents for running in municipal elections. Public election committees and independent mayoral candidates already can submit applications to municipal election commissions.

All lists of nominated candidates and individual candidates will be registered only after they have received sufficient voter support. The minimum number of signatures that need to be collected ranges from as few as 100 in Rietavas, a town in western Lithuania, to 1,700 in Vilnius.

Registered candidates and their list will be published on 30 January.

Local elections and the first direct mayoral elections in Lithuania will be held on 1 March.
