The new posts are being created in response to the geopolitical situation, the Ministry of National Defence has said.

“Active bilateral cooperation with the United States of America will contribute to the addressing of defense-related matters that are important to Lithuania and, directly, to the strengthening of Lithuania’s security,” the ministry explained.

Meanwhile, the necessity of the new function in Ukraine is based on the desire to help build capacity of Ukraine’s security and defense sector, to support ongoing reforms and to resolve the ongoing conflict in that country peacefully.
