The Labour Party, which is part of the governing coalition, calls on other parties to sign a joint declaration. The document would confirm Lithuania's commitment to accept 1,105 asylum seekers. If requests are received from EU institutions "to accept an additional number of asylum seekers based on quotas or any other mandatory principle, the state's firm, clear and unambiguous position would have to be expressed on the impossibility of such acceptance".

The Labour Party also wants any further decisions on refugee resettlement to necessitate a vote in parliament.

Over 1.2 million people arrived in Europe last year, sparking the biggest refugee crisis since WWII. Lithuania has agreed to accept 1,105 refugees over the course of two years.
