"I have no violations to resign over", the lawmaker told reporters on Wednesday after he left the office of Viktoras Pranckietis, the speaker of the Seimas.

Pranckietis met with Pūkas after the Seimas Commission for Ethics and Procedures decided to initiate impeachment proceedings against the politician, who was elected to the parliament on the Order and Justice party's list.

"Yes, I called on (Pūkas) to give up (his) mandate. I started with that call and ended with that call, but he held to his opinion and said that he would defend himself. However, the Ethics and Procedures Commission discussed this today and the issue of setting up an (impeachment) commission will be added to tomorrow's agenda," the speaker told reporters after the meeting.

The ethics watchdog decided earlier in the day to submit a motion to open impeachment proceedings against Pūkas on suspicions that he might have breached the oath and violated the Constitution.

A group of young women have accused Pūkas of sexual harassment. The lawmaker denies these accusations, even though he has offered a public apology to the women.

The Info TV channel cited a female Vilnius resident as saying that during a job interview, Pūkas invited her to visit his room in the Seimas hotel and to see his bedroom and made remarks about the "fun of rolling in his bed."
