Here’s a week full of recommendations of how to spend your free time in Vilnius. Music, art, gastronomy, bar-hopping, cinema and sports – but please, don’t try to experience everything at the same time.

A Week in Vilnius: 12–17 February

Thursday, Feb 12th
Live music: “Kalnai jūroje”

8PM, Kirtimai cultural centre
Admission €3

There’s a running joke about Kirtimai cultural centre being a nightclub closest to the Vilnius international airport. It’s actually true, the concert hall (or rather a house, really) being in the walking distance from the arrivals hall. Some nice intercultural events have happened there, involving the local roma community and much more. This Thursday is dedicated to the indigenous Australian instrument called didgeridoo that is mastered by a Lithuanian musician Audrius Kuševičius. He will be joined by many colleagues.

Friday, Feb 13th
Music: “Sólstafir”

6PM, “New York Musical Theare”
Admission from €20

A band as cold and strong it could be made of metal. “Sólstafir” used to belong to the genre, indeed, but they’re much deeper in the waters of post rock at the moment. Yet another example of how amazing Icelandic music is, the band will present their newest album in a building that used to be a cinema in Soviet times and is worth a visit on its own.

A Week in Vilnius: 12–17 February

Saturday, Feb 14th
Sports: “LTeam” Winter Olympic Festival

All day, Druskininkai
Admission free

Nope, no pink hearts or expensive champagne. A totally alternative Valentine’s can be spent on your skis or snowboard, running a few miles or skating. Spend a busy day (or just remain a spectator) in lovely Druskininkai resort that’s just an hour an a half drive away from the capital and relax in one of its numerous hotels and spas. Booking a room in advance is always a good idea. And “Kolonada” is a tasty Sunday brunch recommendation!

A Week in Vilnius: 12–17 February

Sunday, Feb 15th
Nightlife: Benoit & Sergio

11PM, “Opium Club”
Admission from €5

An electronic music duo that once met in Berlin consists of a French guy and an American guy. Together, they sing, perform, play and make people tear their shirts off. They also share their drinks with the audience, and their electronica is as close to “real songs” as you can get. A truly international way to step into our Independence Day – yes, Monday is a day-off!

Monday, Feb 16th
Live music: Independence Day concert

Admission free

A free concert in the Cathedral square is definitely on the Vilnius bucket list. It will be very, very crowded but much more pleasant than, let’s say, a New Years celebration on the same location. The Independence Day will be celebrated with the performances by a handful of local musicians – anything from kids choir to hiphop-meets-pop, really, augmented by 3D projections. If you’re not into mass events, it will also be streamed live on Delfi TV (link below).
