Kriščiūnas, 44, should be appointed to the post as of August 3, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a draft governmental resolution.

Incumbent Ambassador Žygimantas Pavilionis will be recalled from the post on July 30.

Kriščiūnas took the post of foreign vice-minister in the end of 2012 after serving as finance vice-minister for three years.

In 1993-1998, he worked at the Foreign Ministry's Economic Department, working at the Lithuanian Embassy in the US in 1998-2001, at the Finance Ministry in 2001-2004 and as secretary at the Finance Ministry in 2004-2009.

In Lithuania, ambassadors are appointed and dismissed by the president in response to the government's proposal and approval from the parliamentary Foreign Affairs Committee.
