Major Witt was on Monday awarded a National Defense System of the Republic of Lithuania Medal of Merit, the Ministry of National Defense said.

National Defense Vice Minister Vytautas Umbrasas said during the ceremony that Lithuania and the United Kingdom share common values and interests in pursuit of security in Europe. He also thanked the UK government for its decision to significantly contribute to the protection of NATO's eastern borders.

The ministry also said in its statement that the UK is an important ally of Lithuania, having supported Lithuania's independence for many years and provided valuable assistance in building Lithuania's army.
