Some 210 tourists from Lithuania are currently in Tunisia and 80 of them are in the town of Sousse, where nearly 40 people were killed in a terror attack on Friday, the tour operator Novaturas said on Saturday.

"We have two clients in Port el Kantaoui, where the attack took place. This is a special situation. Our foreign representatives are with all the tourists all the time. They are visiting them in hotels and are keeping them updated on the situation," Dovilė Zapkutė, a marketing project manager at Novaturas, told BNS.

The company is currently making decisions on flying the tourists back to Lithuania, Zapkutė said.

"We are now planning our return flights for next week. We want to do it as quickly as possible," she said.

The Lithuanian Foreign Ministry told BNS on Friday that diplomats had no information about Lithuanian casualties in Tunisia.

The Irish media have reported that two Lithuanian families who are living in Ireland were near the place where the shooting occurred, but they managed to escape unharmed.

Thirty-eight people, mostly British tourists, were killed and tens more were injured when at least one gunman opened fire in a hotel in the Port El Kantaoui district of Sousse.

Some 150 kilometers from the Tunisian capital, Sousse is a popular resort among locals and Europeans.
