"French prosecutors have officially confirmed to the embassy that the detained person is a Russian citizen," said Artūras Vazbys, acting director of the ministry's Information and Public Relations Department.

In his words, Lithuanian diplomats will therefore discontinue their inquiries into the course of the investigation.

Eight Syrian and three Iranian citizens including three children were discovered aboard the truck that was detained in Poitiers, western France, on Monday.
