President Dalia Grybauskaite intends to go to Poland next year to attend festivities to mark 100-year anniversary of the country's statehood, inviting her Polish counterpart, Andrzej Duda, to attend the 100-year statehood anniversary in Vilnius on Feb. 16, the presidential press service said.

The leaders of Lithuania and Poland met in New York on Tuesday at the United Nations (UN) General Assembly in the second announced face-to-face meeting of presidents of the two neighboring states after the first held in the Croatian seaside resort of Dubrovnik last August.

Grybauskaite and Duda discussed the regional security situation, cooperation within NATO and the European Union (EU), as well as implementation of national energy and infrastructure projects.

"We discussed the regional security situation, the response in Poland and Lithuania, what we see and how we will use the information that we see outside our borders. We also discussed how the (Zapad) exercise will help us better prepare for NATO reform, and both countries will have very serious proposals on reinforcing and boosting contingency of our region," Grybauskaite said in an audio recording published by the President's Office after the meeting.

In the Lithuanian president's words, the meeting also addressed bilateral energy projects, including the second electricity interconnection LitPol Link, and synchronization of the Baltic power networks with Western Europe.
