Damusytė, 60, will replace Vytautas Pinkus by 12 August, according to a draft government decision.

Born in the US, Damušytė earned degrees in history and political science in the United States. Following the restoration of Lithuania’s independence, she joined Lithuania’s mission to the United Nations. Subsequently, Damušytė led Lithuania’s delegation to the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), served as Lithuania’s ambassador to NATO, as an ambassador-at-large at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as a coordinator of Lithuania’s support to Afghanistan and as an ambassador to Canada. Since 2013, she has headed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Department of Lithuanians Living Abroad.

In Lithuania, ambassadors are appointed and dismissed by the president, with proposals from the government and the approval of the parliamentary Foreign Affairs Committee. The committee has already voted to approve Damušytė’s nomination.
