In her words, France is Lithuania's strategic partner.

"Both countries continue their active cooperation in fields of politics, energy, defence, economy, science and culture," the President's Office said in a press release.

Grybauskaitė also emphasized Lithuania's appreciation of France's active participation in the NATO air policing mission in the Baltic states.

Last year, France was 11th in terms of trade relations, which increased by 5 percent. The Lithuanian president thanked for the French support to Lithuania's membership in the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development.

Vilnius is Jeantaud's first ambassadorial appointment after he held various posts at the French Foreign Ministry, as well as embassies to Athens, Bern and the French mission at the European Union in Brussels. Jeantaud has a degree in political studies.
