Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaitė on Wednesday congratulated Afghanistan President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani on the country's Independence Day.

"As Afghanistan addresses issues related to strengthening the state and ensuring national unity, I would like to express my strong support to you and all citizens pursuing peace, unity and agreement. Let me honestly wish your country the greatest unity and togetherness in overcoming challenges and laying the foundation of a strong state with an open, democratic and prosperous society," the Lithuanian president wrote in her message of congratulation.

Grybauskaitė also extended her condolences to the Afghanistan leader and the families of victims of recent tragic terror attacks that took place in Afghanistan this week.

The Lithuanian president wished her Afghanistan counterpart and the people of Afghanistan peace, security and wellbeing.
