"The purpose of my arrival is to strengthen Lithuanian-Japanese economic cooperation ties and to continue our meaningful political dialog," Skvernelis said on the eve of the meeting.

The meeting is scheduled to begin at noon Vilnius time, to be followed by a joint news conference.

Abe last January became the first ever Japanese prime minister to visit Lithuania.

Lithuanian Energy Minister Žygimantas Vaičiūnas has recently invited Japan's Hitachi and Toshiba to participate in the Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant decommissioning projects.
